
If the events of the past few days have proved anything it is that a week is, as the adage goes, a long time in politics. No sooner had it seemed as though a Brexit breakthrough had been achieved in the form of a renegotiated deal essentially approved by Parliament – an impossibility, some had previously said – than it blocked its progress. Cue inevitable reactions from stock markets and sterling.
