
The latest seasonally adjustedIHS Markit/CIPS UK Construction Total Activity Index points to an industry firmly in contraction with civil engineering a prime cause for concern. A reading of 43.3 in September was down on the previous month, although marginally in advance of the 10-year low point for the industry recorded in June (anything below 50 indicates the industry is shrinking, and the lower the score the more rapid the decline).
