Young money guides

I'm Katie, and I made the Young Money guides.

First off, I have a confession. I only know about financial stuff because I work as a money journalist. In the days before landing this job I was pretty clueless about money and this made managing it a bit nightmarish. I'm more in control of it now, though, and I can tell you from experience that nailing the basics of how money works is invaluable if you want to get your finances on track. I thought it might be a good idea to share some of what I know now - so you don't have to learn the hard way.

These guides have been written for people in their 20s and early 30s who want to set themselves up with financial stability for life. Let me be clear on one point, though. There are plenty of people out there who want to tell you about budgeting your day-to-day money. I fully endorse these people but I am not one of them. This is because I'm actually pretty rubbish at budgeting. I like nice things and too often I find myself having to eat egg on toast for dinner at the end of the month as a result. So pretending to be the 'queen of budgeting' or something like that would be a bit daft.

What you will find here, though, is a relevant and non-confusing introduction to some valuable tools that are must-haves if you want to meet your financial goals. These tools will help to you to:

■ Feel financially secure now

■ Build your wealth to its best potential so you can be better off in middle age

■ Make sure you never run out of money

If you aspire to any of these aims but you aren't quite sure how to achieve them - or why doing something about it now is important - then read on.

Young Money is not here to tell you how to spend your cash. How you decide to manage you money for the future is up to you, but I thought you might appreciate some guidance from the professionals, so I asked a bunch of financial advisers what they think you should do for the best and have included their ideas in the guides. I hope you will find them helpful.
